“On the battlefield, the military pledges to leave no soldier behind. As a nation, let it be our pledge that when they return home, we leave no veteran behind.” — Dan Lipinski
Role of Certified Legal Nurse Consultant (CLNC) for VTC or Disability Claim
-
CLNCs can play a vital role in assessing the physical and mental health needs of veterans in VTCs. Legal Nurse Consultants provide critical insights into how these health issues may impact a Veteran's behavior and treatment outcomes ("Meeting the complex healthcare needs of veterans", 2022).
-
CLNCs can provide training and education to judges and lawyers on the unique challenges faced by veterans, such as PTSD, TBI, and military sexual trauma. This education helps legal professionals better understand how these issues may contribute to criminal behavior (Desai et al., 2023).
CLNCs can work closely with judges, prosecutors, and defense attorneys to provide or find expert testimony and recommendations. This collaboration ensures that the court understands the Veteran's health issues and can make informed decisions about treatment and sentencing (Rosenthal & Finlay, 2022).
-
CLNCs can help interpret individualized treatment plans for the Court that address the specific needs of each Veteran. These plans may include mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment, and medical care (Knudsen & Wingenfeld, 2016).
